Website Essentials for Local and Service-Based Businesses
Local businesses have different priorities than SaaS or ecommerce. Here's what actually matters for yours.

A local business website has a completely different job than a SaaS landing page
A lot of website advice is written with software products in mind — funnels, trials, feature comparisons. If you run a restaurant, a salon, a repair shop, or any other service-based local business, most of that advice doesn’t map cleanly onto what your visitors actually need. They’re usually deciding something much more immediate: can I trust this place, and how do I get there or book them.
Put your hours, location, and phone number where nobody has to search
These aren’t secondary details for a local business — they’re often the entire reason someone visited the site. Make sure they’re visible without scrolling, ideally in the header or a persistent spot, and keep them accurate. Nothing damages trust faster than a listed hours that turn out to be wrong.
Make booking or contacting you the easiest thing on the page
Whether that’s a booking widget, a click-to-call button, or a simple contact form, this action should be reachable in one tap from anywhere on the site, not buried at the bottom of a long homepage. For a local business, this single button is usually doing more real work than anything else on the page.
Real photos of your actual place beat any stock image
A stock photo of a generic storefront tells visitors nothing about what to actually expect when they show up. Real photos of your space, your team, and your work set honest expectations and are one of the most trust-building things a local business site can include.
Reviews matter more here than almost anywhere else online
Local decisions are often trust decisions, and reviews are one of the strongest trust signals available. Feature a handful of genuine, specific reviews prominently, and link out to your full review profile so visitors can verify there’s more where those came from.
Make sure your map embed and directions actually work
An interactive map, or at minimum a clear address with a link to open directions in a maps app, removes friction for someone who’s already decided to visit. This is a small technical detail that’s easy to overlook and genuinely frustrating when it’s missing or broken.
